Timber Frames
Beauty in Tradition
We build new 'heavy' timber frames, typically in green Oak. 'Heavy' timber framing refers primarily to the size of timbers used and has it's roots going back centuries. Typically, these types of timber frame use the historic mortise and tenon joint (among a few others) and the wooden peg (or 'Treenail') to 'draw' the joint together. Creating structures in this way does not usually require modern fixings and results in beautifully crafted and structurally sound buildings.
Modern Timber Frames Built In The Traditional Way
The Process
- Consultation & Design - expert guidance on all design elements, working with you and all other professional trades involved. We can either work with your appointed team or we can provide architectural and engineering services through our trade partners.
- Build - Off-site fabrication of your timber frame. We will survey the site of the timber frame but the cutting and joining of all elements will take place off-site. In this tradition, all elements will only come together at the final raising stage.
- Raise - This is where all of the hard work comes together. It is often the shortest stage, a testament to the planning and expert fabrication of your timber frame.
What can we build for you?
We are capable of making a range of structures for you, here are some examples:
