We have the skills and expertise to restore and rebuild timber windows, doors and other interior timber architecture. We see value in wooden architecture of all types and we do everything we can to keep it in place for current and future generations to enjoy.

We deal a lot with deterioration of timber, both structural and non-structural, and can undertake repairs and replacements in line with the requirements of conservation best practice.

Tool Marks

Historic properties often leave clues as to how the building was made including which tools the carpenters used. Take these axe marks for example, on the left you can see the axe marks left from the process of 'hewing'. One the right, a carpenter has created 'keys' using an axe in order to provided a rough surface to plaster onto.

Burn Marks and Chamfer Stops

Here on the left we have burn marks, left by inhabitants, often thought to protect the building from the threat of fire. On the right is a historic chamfer stop, a decorative element often applied to floor beams.
